Everything about this pic (fingers, nail shape, rings, elvis) gave me a tickle.

HER Hearts...In-COLOR.net

So I do a lot of interviews and some capture my mission better than others.
This is an interview from a year ago with a great reporter, Ashley Ratcliff, for a dope website In-color.net (which captures the world of art, design, fashion, music, and entertainment, along side editorials written by those who give a fresh and intelligent view from the minority perspective).

This is one of my favorite interviews ever.

Melinda Mann Rivera:
HER Nails for the Risk-taker

Melinda Mann Rivera pays attention to detail.

That was evident from the moment we met this week at an eatery in the Miracle Mile area of Los Angeles. As the 28-year-old nail designer strutted her way through lunchtime traffic — tea thermos in tow, BlackBerry in hand — an effortless it-girl-on-the-go swagger exuded from her.

Dressed in a gray capelet over a green plaid blouse accentuating her jade-colored eyes, the Hello Kitty and elegantly hip multi-tiered chains draping her neckline weren’t the only accessories I noticed. It was the stunning pair of “event nails” hanging from Rivera’s fingertips that caught my attention — they fit her outfit to a T, complete with skulls and gold links.

HER Hearts...The Summer

Got these pics off Runway Revolution awhile back--been saving them for the warmer months. They give me the chills. This is totally my look this summer. In fact, starting today. Two pool parties this weekend--I will be wearing my flowers and bangles for sure.

And if you don't recognize this woman as one of the most beautiful models--period. You're stuck.

And this is Frida-esque? Don't get me started on Frida. More on that later.

Nail COVERage

I am always so excited to see nail art in the mainstream media. Here is Alicia Keys on the cover of JET last Decemeber rocking interesting nail art. I love MINX, but a lot of things are pointing me back to my first love of 3-D nail art. I think I'm going to have a 3-D only nail day soon--and if you're a stylist I always love doing shoots and lookbooks so be in touch.

My new best friend

So my girls and I watched the Oscars together and as soon as Ms. Sandy Powell came up to accept her award for best costume design--we were like, "Um, excuse me Ms. Lady! We love her!" And then, when she accepted and said "Well (sigh)....I already have 2 of these so..." we really loved the bitch. As a green eye'd, short red hair'd girl myself--I was totally in love. Then I googled her and saw the green nails!

Ok, so Sandy Powell is officially my new BFF.

Ummm...and you got your award from SJP and Tom Ford? Right.
The fact that I can't find out who made her amazing dress is frustrating me though. (maybe her?)
It's as if my girl Maya made a Boxing Kitten Oscar gown. Love it.

HER Hearts...Wardrobe Chick

So...I'm a bad blogger. I don't really read blogs, nor do I update this one enough to keep the blog aficionados who check them daily entertained.

The only blogs I check on a semi-regular basis are Ladies Lotto cuz that's my ish, and my girl Melody Ehsani's because busy businesses have gotten in the way of our once weekly tea/jam sessions and I use her blog to stay up to date on the silly stuff in her life.

But there is one blog I try to check DAILY and that's Ms. Wardbrobe Chick. It is quite simply beautiful images that catch my fancy, with simple and cute blurbs from a very stylish and whimsical friend of mine, Erlinda Denise. She has a great eye and a great voice and her blog always brings a smile to my day.

In the same week she will post the following images--all of which make me tingle.

Add her to your regular blog stops. You won't regret it.

Chain Gang

Saw this pic on my girl Melody's Blog and it reminded me of these nails I did for a modeling shoot last year. The nails were also cut like hearts at the top--wonder if I'll see that soon.

LLADY MELINDA RIVERA

Remember this Lee Press On Nail commercial from ’85?

Well HER Nails is the, “Couture Lee Press On nails for the 21st century.” Melinda Mann Rivera fused her love of jewelry and nail art into event-nails. A set of temporary nails that she custom designers for you. She says her nail designs are, “whimsical, extravagant and unique.” HER Nails can design acrylics, natural nails and event-nails with minx, polish, appliqués, chains, bobbles, pearls, really anything your heart desires.

Melinda’s favorite accessory even before nails is jewelry the natural next step was for her to figure out a way to incorporate those jewels onto her fingertips. “Jewelry and nails go together, event-nails are nail jewelry.” She recalls making her first set of event-nails, from a broken pair of doorknockers purchased at the LA swap meat and, “glued nuggets of doorknockers to her finger nails”. She would love to see her event-nails reach a larger market in the next three to five years, “I don’t want them mass produced but I would like to see them in Intermix and Kitson. Hopefully having a high end version and even a set for little girls.” Currently she is trying to perfect adding zippers to her designs, “I’ve been playing around with zippers, that’s my new project, figuring how to put real zippers on nails. I’ve painted zippers on nails but I want real ones.” And, whom would she like to outfit in these tips? Jennifer Lopez or course.
